Ultra Mobile Simplifies Plan Lineup and Launches New $49 Unlimited LTE Data Plan

T-Mobile MVNO Ultra Mobile has made major changes to its single line, single month plans. The plan list has been pared down from seven to five plans. The top plan now costs $49/month and includes 'unlimited" LTE data. Like every other unlimited mobile high speed data plan from every other operator, I doubt that Ultra's includes truly unlimited amounts of full speed data.  Ultra's terms and conditions page say they "may take measures including temporarily reducing data throughput for a subset of customers who use a disproportionate amount of bandwidth."

Ultra's website is lacking in detail regarding some of the features of the new plans but an Ultra Mobile dealer sent me the infographic above (click to view larger) which is much more specific. The changes to Ultra's remaining plans are mainly increases in data and decreases in the amount of international calling and roaming credit. I've listed the plans below with changes indicated bold and strikeout fonts. New plan allocations are in bold, old ones in strike out.

The current four plans are
  • $19 100 MB (hard capped) LTE data, unlimited calls to 60 international destinations, $1.25 int'l call credit, one time $5 int'l roaming credit. (unchanged but see below for the option to add unlimited throttled data by purchasing three months in advance).
  • $23 500 MB 4G + 500 MB 3G + unlimited 2G data, unlimited calls to 60 international destinations, $1.25 int'l call credit, one time $5 int'l roaming credit (new plan)
  • $29 1 2 GB 4G + 1 2 GB 3G + unlimited 2G data, unlimited calls to 60 international destinations, $2.50 $1.25 int'l call credit, one time $10 $5 int'l roaming credit
  • $39 2 3 GB 4G + 2 3 GB 3G + unlimited 2G data, unlimited calls to 60 international destinations, $2.50 $1.25 int'l call credit, one time $10 $5 int'l roaming credit
  • $49 10 GB 4G + 10 GB 3G + unlimited 2G data, unlimited LTE data, unlimited calls to 60 international destinations,  no $1.25 int'l call credit, one time $15 $5 int'l roaming credit.
Ultra is also offering new incentives to users if they pay for service three months at a time. The following perks are offered with a three month plan purchase:
  • $19 plan users get unlimited throttled data after the initial 100 MB of high speed data is used.
  • $29 plan users get double the high speed data, 4 GB of 4G and 4 GB of 3G data instead of the usual 2 GB 4G and 2 GB 3G
  • $39 plan users also get double high speed data, 6 GB of 4G and 6 GB of 3G instead of the usual 3 GB 4G and 3 GB 3G
  • $49 plan users get their fourth month free.
There are no changes to Ultra's Flex multi-line and multi-month plans. The Flex plans include unlimited talk and texts, unlimited international texts, unlimited international calls to 10 countries and 250 MB of rollover LTE data per month.  As a single line the Flex plan costs $22 for one month, $35 for two months, $45 for three  months, $50 for four months or $12.50 per month for five or more months. As a multi-line plan, the Flex Plan is $35/month for two lines, $45 for three line, $50 for four lines or $12.50 per month for five or more lines.

The following former plans are gone from the Ultra Mobile site and are presumably no longer available to new subscribers.
  • $21 250 MB (hard capped) data, unlimited calls to 60 international destinations, $1.25 int'l call credit, $5 int'l roaming credit
  • $24 500 MB (hard capped) 4G data, unlimited calls to 30 international destinations, $7 int'l call credit, $10 int'l roaming credit
  • $34 2 GB 4G + 2 GB 3G + unlimited 2G data, unlimited calls to 60 international destinations, 0 int'l call credit, $10 int'l roaming credit
  • $45 5 GB 4G + 5 GB 3G + unlimited 2G data, unlimited calls to 60 international destinations, no int'l call credit, $15 int'l roaming credit
  • $54 10 GB 4G + 10 GB 3G + unlimited 2G data, unlimited calls to 60 international destinations, no int'l call credit, $15 int'l roaming credit.

  1. Do they offer to setup the flex family online? Or is that still in-store only? Closest store is over 2hrs one way.

    1. Not online, but the website says you can activate the Flex plan by calling "611 from your Ultra phone
Or 1.888.777.0446 from any other phone".

  2. By "3G" speed, do they mean LTE that is throttled back? And do we know what they consider "3G" speed?

    1. I believe that Ultra's 3G and 2G are just whatever technology (LTE, HSPA+, HSPA) conditions support throttled to a lower speed. Ultra says their 2G speed is less than 64 kbps. They don't say what their 3G speed is but I suspect it's 256- 512 kbps.

  3. That 4 months unlimited offer works out to $37.50/mo - not too bad if you need a single line. Do you still have to pay fees on that 4th month's service?

  4. 4th month free for the unlimited $49 plan makes it cheaper than the $39 plan.
    Kewl!

Any word on when Ultra Mobile will be available at Main Stream stores like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc? Still preferring not to conduct business thru internet.
    No dealers nearby.

  6. Those plans are not on their website yet, and won't be available until 9.1.17

  7. I saw the plan setup on their website and unless I did not look at it since yesterday, some of what is displayed here is not updated yet.
