Sprint MVNO Republic Wireless is launching the second generation  Motorola Moto X, tomorrow December 10th. The 16 GB version will be available for $399 $349 directly from Republic in black. That's $100 off the full price of the unlocked and other carrier versions of the phone.

The Republic 2nd gen Moto X  will also be available at the same price tomorrow from Motorola's MotoMaker website which allows the customer to customize their phone's colors, wallpaper and start-up message or have a message engraved on the back. You can also upgrade to the 32 GB model at MotoMaker for $50 extra.

The 2nd gen Moto X is Motorola's current flagship model. It features Android KitKat, a 5.2" 1920x1080px full HD AMOLED screen, 13MP rear and 2MP front cameras, 2.5GHz Snapdragon quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM, 16 or 32GB of internal memory. It supports Sprint's Triband LTE.

The Moto X also has a number of unique software features including:
  • Moto Voice: Lets you make calls, check the weather, get directions, etc., without touching any physical buttons by using your voice
  • Moto Display: Check the time or see notifications pulse quietly on the screen without waking up the phone.
  • Moto Actions: Respond to your Moto X with gestures without having to touch the phone. Wave your hand above the phone to silence calls or alarms. Or launch the camera with two flicks of your wrist.
  • Moto Assist: Moto X can tell if you're in a moving vehicle and automatically read incoming text messages aloud or tell who's calling. It can automatically respond with a text reply to let people know you're behind the wheel.
Republic offers four plans for the Moto X
  • $40/month for unlimited talk, text and data over WiFi, Sprint EVDO 3G and LTE 4G
  • $25/month for unlimited talk, text and data over WiFi and Sprint EVDO 3G (no LTE)
  • $10/month for unlimited talk and text on WiFI and Sprint with no data except when you are on WiFi
  • $5/month for WiFi only use, including WiFi calling
Republic adds telecom taxes and fees to all plans with cellular access. Taxes vary by state but average about 20%.

Republic is unusual among Sprint MVNOs in that off-network voice roaming is included at no extra charge. Data roaming is available too but is limited to 25MB/month, voice and text roaming is unlimited.

  1. Deal looks real good. And TING appears to have ways to make up for major Sprint deficiencies.

As for the color, how can anyone complain about a black phone? Just get a case for it. Besides, what should really matter is what is on the screen. As long as the phone case itself isn't some truly awful embarassing peuce or colostomy-gray or chartreuse, it should be ok.

  2. Not everyone wants to put a case on their phone. I'm not saying I personally wouldn't, but there are lots of people who like the "naked" look and feel.

    1. Yeah, I know what you mean. I have a friend who hates cases. She drops and smashes her Samsung flagship smart phone once every month or two. She has a replacement/insurance plan, so she's never worried, and just gets a new one each time.

  3. Republic Wireless Moto X Update: Starting tomorrow, December 10th @ 8am(PST),11am(EST) through Thursday, December 11th @7:59am(PST),11am(EST) the Moto X will be $50 of its regular price of ($399) for $349 on the Republic Wireless website and Moto Maker.

  4. Is it worth buying it for 349.99

  5. Yeswap on that 40 plan unlimited 4g lte do you know if or what it's hard capped at because we know it can't truly be unlimited no throttle? Probably 5gbs huh?

    1. Unlimited cellular data is soft capped at 5GB per month with speeds reduced after 5GB. Republic allows users to exceed 5GB without throttling for one month every six months.
