Tracfone launched on their website three weeks ago? Well they are gone, pulled from the TracFone site last week.
The text cards worked with TracFone Android and BYOP phones which use the "triple-triple" billing system. Triple-triple has separate buckets for minutes, texts and data. For every minute of airtime you buy, you get 3 minutes, 3 texts and 3 MBs of data. Triple-triple is a good deal except that it's all too easy to end up with lots of minutes but no texts or data left. While data top up cards have been available since the beginning of triple-triple, the only way to add texts was by buying a minutes card whether you needed more minutes or not. For anyone who uses a fair number of texts, the text cards were a welcome addition.
Like the data cards, the text cards did not add days of service. Users still need to add one of the regular airtime cards every 30, 90 or 365 days, depending on denomination, to keep their TracFone account active. Like MBs added with the data cards, texts added with the text cards rollover and never expire as long as the user keeps their service active.
It's not clear why the text cards disappeared. A HowardForums user was told by a TracFone customer service representative that the disappearance was temporary and was due to some "glitches". If you desperately need texts, another customer using the chat option on TracFone's Facebook support page was told by a TracFone rep that the rep could manually add texts to the user's phone. I've contacted TracFone's media relations person to see if I can get more information and will update this post if I do.
