If you are an AT&T GoPhone user on the $45 per month plan, take a look at the Your Plan section of the Rate Plans page in your MyAT&T online account manager. A HowardForums user discovered that AT&T says that his plan now includes unlimited calls to Mexico. That's a bit strange as AT&T's advertising and promotional materials for the $45 plan don't say anything about Mexican calling being included with the $45 plan. But there it is plain as day as highlighted below on the At&T site.
Unfortunately, calling Mexico for free on the $45 plan doesn't work. A $45 plan user tried to make a call to Mexico and got shot down with message saying that they didn't have sufficient funds to make the call. I suspect the unlimited calls to Mexico claim on the AT&T site is copy/paste typo (the $60 GoPhone plan includes unlimited calls to Mexico and Canada). Or maybe AT&T is in the process of adding unlimited Mexico calls to the $45 plan and jumped the gun on updating the MyPlan page.
Currently it looks like $45 plan users need to have a cash balance in their account to call Mexico. GoPhone charges 10¢/minute for calls to Mexican and landlines and 26¢/minute for calls to mobile phones in Mexico so you might want to keep those calls short.

Maybe at&t will step up to the plate and make it so. Maybe a publicity stunt, waiting for someone to catch it, giving at&t the "opportunity" to show "good will."
ReplyDeleteDamn, š 10 cents per minute to Landlines; and 26 cents per minute to cell phones! How is it that T-MOBILE (but NOT T-MOBILE per se) MVNOs can charge so much CHEAPER rates for International Calling?
ReplyDeleteDennis, are GoPhone plans' Data Hard-capped? ( Didn't they used to make you pay for DATA exceeding the monthly allotment?)
Thanks!
No
DeleteGoPhone data isn't hard capped any more. $45 and $60 plans have unlimited 128Kbps data after the high speed portion is used.
DeleteAlso, unused data rolls over. Plan data is used before rollover data and rollover data expires after 30 days however.
AT&T's false claim that the GoPhone $45/month plan "includes unlimited calls from the U.S. to Mexico" is absolutely outrageous. Relying on that false claim, customers are making calls from the U.S. to Mexico for which they are being charged. I am going to file complaints about this with the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Communications Commission, and the Attorney General of my state.
ReplyDelete@Dennis Bournique:
ReplyDeleteThe following sentence in your article is slightly incorrect: "If you are an AT&T GoPhone user on the $45 per month plan take a look at the Your Plan section of your MyAT&T page." It should say this: "If you are an AT&T GoPhone user on the $45 per month plan take a look at the Your Plan section of the Rate Plans page in your MyAT&T online account manager."
I've made the change you suggested.
DeleteHere is a screenshot of the entire Rate Plans page as it appears when a customer who is on the GoPhone $45 plan is logged into the MyAT&T online account manager:

I get an "Invalid attachment specified" error with the limk you posted you posted.
DeleteCall your Attorney General of Your State. I can’t tell how powerful that is. I used that against Sprint and Won Big time. When you call you Attorney General of Your State asks for the Fraud Dept. Copy everything and send certified mail.
ReplyDeleteI'm the person who posted the "February 23, 2016 at 8:30 AM" comment above. Sorry about the URL in that post. That URL was supposed to link to a screenshot I stashed on the Howard Forums website, but I now realize that unfortunately that URL is unreliable. So I have now stashed that screenshot on Wikimedia. Hopefully the Wikimedia URL will be more reliable.

Anyone bother to call AT&T and ask for clarification? The conspiratorial tone of some of the posts, above, made me laugh.
ReplyDelete@Dennis Bournique:
ReplyDeleteI suggest that you get in touch with the press relations department at AT&T and ask them some questions about the false claim ("Includes unlimited calls from the U.S. to Mexico") that currently appears in the OLAM (online account manager) for the GoPhone $45 plan. Here are a few of the things that you may want to ask them about.
How long has that false claim been in the OLAM?
Is AT&T going to reimburse all people (both current customers and former customers) who were charged for calls to Mexico during the period in which that false claim was in the OLAM of their GoPhone $45 plan?
Is AT&T going to remove that claim from the OLAM? If so, when are they going to remove it?
Is AT&T going to keep that claim in the OLAM and begin honoring it? If so, when will they begin honoring it?
@Dennis Bournique:
ReplyDeleteUPDATE
AT&T has removed the false claim ("Includes unlimited calls from the U.S. to Mexico") from the OLAM.
Here is a new screenshot of the entire Rate Plans page as it appears when a customer who is on the GoPhone $45 plan is logged into the OLAM:

In the paragraph under the "International" header in that screenshot, there are two "click here" links. Here are the targets of those links:
Link #1:
https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/international/gophone.html?tab=2
Link #2:
https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/international/gophone.html
so someone at at&t made a mistake. and they eventually corrected it. this all does not really matter if you don't call mexico.

ReplyDeleteAre you going to update your article, now that AT&T has removed the false claim about unlimited calls to Mexico?
