Welcome to Prepaid Phone News' weekly Prepaid Phones on Sale this Week post. Here are the best current deals on prepaid and unlocked phones that I've found today online and in stores.

This week's Deal of the Week is the AT&T GoPhone Huawei Ascend XT H611 for $99 at Walmart. It runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and features a Snapdragon 616 SOC, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory, a 6 inch 720x1280px IPS screen, SD card slot and a non-removable 3000 mAh battery. The main camera is 8 MP with LED flash and autofocus and a there's 2 MP front facing selfie camera.

The Ascend XT will work out of the box on GoPhone, AT&T post paid, Cricket and AT&T MVNOs. In common with other GoPhones, AT&T will unlock the Ascend XT for free provided its never been powered up with an AT&T, Cricket or AT&T MVNO SIM installed. See SlickDeals for detailed unlocking instructions. I haven't been able to find any information on which bands the phone supports but I suspect that LTE is limited to AT&T's bands 2, 4, 5 and 12/17

For the hackers among us, the Huawei H611 has been rooted and TWRP is available for it but no custom ROMs yet.

    Cricket had Iphone 5S for $149.99 (plus $100 port in credit) in Feb 2016. Almost free, if we take referral credits.

    But in Feb 2017, price is $199.99.

    Price went up for 3+ years old phone?!

    Great site. Learned my Net10 phone is AT&T (excellent coverage/signal). Lately, Net10 retailers in Chicago are mostly stocking Verizon phones. Would a Verizon phone let me keep my current phone number? Would the activation take longer?

      Yes, you can keep your number when changing phones on NET10. The transfer takes a little longer when going from one network operator to another but it's usually a few hours or less.

      Thanks.. With the last couple phones the switch was instant, checking the SIMs they were all AT&T.
      Might try the LG Rebel-Verizon for $30 Kmart/Dollar General, tried getting a promo code from Net10 for their site, they won't budge.

      Read about unlocking AT&T go phones above. Prices look good. Might want to play it safe and stick with AT&T, never dropped a call, although Verizon is supposed to have great coverage.

      No. Boost and Virgin phones have to be used on Boost or Virgin for 12 months before they can be used on Sprint MVNOs like RingPlus.

      RingPlus can activate inactive, fully paid for (not under contract, no EIP due) Sprint postpaid phones. Enter the phone's MEID (on a label on the outside of the phone packaging) on the RingPlus Device Check Page to see if your phone can be activated on RingPlus.

      You would need to pay $50 plus whatever activation fee the dealer chooses to charge. Call a few dealers to see if they are partipating in the free phone offer, have the J3 in stock and what activation fee, if any, they charge. In some sates, including California, you also have to pay sales tax on the full $149.99 retail price of the phone.

    Trying to purchase the ZTE Zmax 2 at AT&T GoPhone to use with Red Pocket. Others say this is possible but when I remove the a required plan from the cart, I lose everything. Anyone have any additional help?

      I believe you need to keep the plan, which you are not charged for, and remove the airtime card that is automatically added to the order.

      LTE data is throttled to 5 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up on all Verizon MVNOs including NET10's Verizon netwprk services. This mentioned on our Prepaid Operator Profile: NET10 | Prepaid Phone News post among other places.
