The new $20 plans make Real Mobile very competitive at the $low end. Real's $20 unlimited talk, text and 200 MB plan is the current value leader at that price point. It includes two to four times as much high speed data as $20 AT&T based unlimited talk and text plans from Red Pocket, Airvoice and EasyGo. The data increases on the $40 and higher plans keep Real reasonably competitive at the higher price points. Real's Sprint-based PayGo plan is heavily throttled, less than 100 Mbps.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know whether their AT&T-based PayGo plan is also throttled?
How much is <100mbps?
DeleteIs it 0 mbps or is it 99 mbps?
100 Mbps? I don't think I've ever had a cell phone plan where the data speed was that high. Did you mean something else?
DeleteMy interpretation of "less than 100 Mbps" is 64 Kbps, no?
Delete64 Kbps is <100 Mbps, as is 8 Mbps (Cricket), 5 Mbps, 128 Kbps (T-Mobile international roaming,) 256 Mbps (T-Mobile ONE plus international roaming)...
DeleteI'm guessing Anon1127 meant 100 Kbps.
The new $20 200/200/500 is definitely a step in the right direction. I wish more MVNO's would offer low usage plans like this.

Delete$40 on a tripled tracfone BYOP plan gets you 600 min/texts/MB and 3 months of service. Add another GB for $10 so you'll get 500MB per month. Total: $50 or $14/month.
DeleteThe nice thing (if you're a really low usage person) is that everything rolls over.
Seems like most of the mnvo prices are within a few dollars of each other.
ReplyDeleteand all just abysmal. the carriers' own prepaid offers are more attractive and stable.
DeleteNot for single line plans @ $20
DeleteAttractive how? Which tier 1 or 2 prepaid carrier offers unl T&T+up to 200MB data at the $20 price point like tier 3 carriers (Real Mobile, Ultra, Lyca, etc) do?
DeleteNothing impressive
ReplyDeleteFor a smaller independent Att mvno, Real punches above its weight class. Maybe not impressive overall compared to giants like Tracfone (Net10 recently got an increase) or bigger more established independents like Red Pocket and H20 (which have good to great Att rates) but for a smaller indie, it holds its own...
ReplyDeleteOh look, a quintuple nothing burger with failure, disappointment and extra irrelevance.
ReplyDeleteNothing to see here.
Oh look...that's where negative nancy went.. lmao
DeleteThe $20 unlimited T&T plan includes MMS. It's international texting that's priced at 15c each.
ReplyDeleteThis would make the plan more attractive. Dennis, are you able to confirm this?
DeleteAccording to a July 15 email from Real Mobile CEO Robert Barrera, MMS on PayGo and both of the $20 plans are 15¢ each.
DeleteThanks for the reply, Dennis. Maybe they changed the plan since then?

While they do say $.15/international message, there's no mention of $0.15/domestic MMS (though there is a rather interesting and vague "Assumes reasonable and customary charges" fine print perhaps applicable to MMS.)
"Assumes reasonable and customary charges" is a ** footnote to "Picture Messaging (MMS)" so it does apply. I think Real is trying to downplay the fact that MMS costs extra, when it's included with most other carriers unlimited talk and text plans.
