2017 Cyber Monday and Cyber Week Prepaid and Unlocked Phone Deal Tracker

Cyber Week, which starts Nov 26, and Cyber Monday, Nov 27, are traditionally the biggest online shopping week and day of the year. That should mean lots of deals on prepaid and unlocked phones as online retailers compete for your dollars.

Unlike Black Friday where leaked scans of newspaper supplements announced deals weeks in advance, many Cyber Monday and Cyber Week are not announced in advance. They just pop up unannounced. That makes them hard to track but we will do our best to post them as quickly as they appear.

Last updated 12/1 9:31 AM PT.

The Cyber Monday Deal Tracker will be updated frequently as deals sell out and new items go online, so check back here often or follow me on Twitter or Google+ or Facebook so you don't miss out on any of the deals.

During Cyber Week this post will replace the regular Prepaid Phones on Sale this Week feature.

Amazon Cyber Monday Deals Week starts 11/25 and runs through 12/2. In typical Amazon fashion new items will go on sale every few minutes. Some dals will be available all week, some for only an hour or two

    2. No Red Pocket is the MVNO, they sell through eBay. You can shop for their plans at their website, but the better pricing is on eBay.

  4. Does anyone know how to use the Red Pocket black Friday eBay annual plan to renew an existing Red Pocket annual plan? When I clicked on the renew link in the eBay page for the annual plan, it took me to a page for a "renewal only" version of the same plan for $30 more..do people just buy and wait for their current plan to time out?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would assume the activation code is really all you need no matter what plan you get, it being the annual plan kit with all the SIM cards included or the annual "renewals only" plan without the SIM kit.

      Delete
    2. To renew the annual RP plan sold on eBay go to https://www.redpocket.com/refill and select "guest checkout". Then enter your phone number. Next page at the bottom is marked "Already have an existing PIN", use that box to enter your activation code that was e-mailed to you. No need for the sim cards unless you are new to Red Pocket. I usually give them away to someone who may be interested.

  5. Also can confirm that the $15 off $75+ flash sale eBay coupon PSHOPAPP works on these Red Pocket plans...but must use the eBay app! And hurry--times out at 6PM PST...

    1. Can one use the Virgin phone on Sprint or other MVNOs without unlocking?

      Delete
    2. Not really. Boost and most Virgin phones have to be used on Boost or Virgin for 12 months before Sprint will allow them on its MVNOs. The only exception is that Virgin Mobile Inner Circle iPhones purchased at full retail price can be unlocked or released for MVNO use after 14 days on Virgin. The only iPhones that Virgin currently sells at full retail price are the 8, 8+ and X.

  20. Where are all the $60 and under deals? When did the prepaid market get so spendy?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. All over the place, and there are plenty of people willing to spend on prepaid, just look at the iPhone and Galaxy.

      Delete
    2. I agree there are a lot of people turning their backs on Big 4 contracts. The up front cost of buying a Galaxy or iPhone is higher but the monthly savings on a good MVNO make it cheaper in the long run. I'm happy to see upper end unlocked phones being marketed to that demographic.

However, there are also people who work and so they aren't eligible for Lifeline, but after rent and food and taxes they don't have a lot of money for a phone. Prepaid plans like Red Pocket's 500/500/500 or 100/100/500 offer service for less than $100/year but it's tough finding a new unlocked phone for less than $100, especially ones that work on the Verizon network.

      Delete
    3. "but it's tough finding a new unlocked phone for less than $100, especially ones that work on the Verizon network."

Hardly a problem worth mentioning, because if you look for USED phones, deals abound...

(But yes, there is a problem of Verizon still running on the crude stone-age CDMA technology: that's one reason personally I avoid both Sprint and Verizon)

      Delete
    4. Hardly a comment worth making on a blog post where deals on NEW phones abound, unless you're on a tight budget.

      Delete
    5. "Verizon still running on the crude stone-age CDMA"
I don't know where you live, but around here Verizon has LTE. They have for a while, and the Red Pocket deal comes with a LTE SIM for Verizon, along with ones for GMSA and GMST.

      Delete
    6. "Hardly a comment worth making on a blog post where deals on NEW phones abound, unless you're on a tight budget."

Refurb/used phones quite often come up on Dennis' price lists, so a comment about used/refurb phones is indeed well worth making.

      Delete
    7. It's OK not to respond if you're not able to suggest good deals on new budget friendly phones that work on Verizon MVNOs.

It's OK to respect the preferences expressed, instead of telling somebody they're wrong for liking Rocky Road and they should get Butter Pecan ice cream instead.

      Delete
    8. It's more like telling someone they're wrong for liking a new sealed tub of black cherry ice cream, rather than one that's already been opened and eaten on the toilet by someone else, all while sticking god knows what in there before they hand it off to you.

Viruses, rootkits and touch monitors are a possibility if the previous user was especially careless/nefarious, especially if they had the phone rooted at any time.

You never really know, which is why used personal computing devices are a much larger risk and normally not worth the savings.

They're like the mobile equivalent of using your shady neighbor's free unsecured wifi as your home connection.

In the worst case scenario, you might even wind up unknowingly possessing leftover traces of someone's illegal pizza stash and get tossed into the meat grinder that is the criminal injustice system, all because you lent your phone to someone you thought was your honorable and loyal military friend.

You may have assumed he'd take a bullet for you. But instead he jumped at the first chance to narc the shit out of you just to get his 15 minutes, all for being the kind of disloyal, scum-sucking traitor that probably won't have many friends on either side during his next firefight.

True story, saw it in the news.

All it takes is someone finding something on your used phone that you didn't put there or even know existed, and you're still scrrwed because it's technically your phone now.

Nobody should risk getting suckered like that, so it's best to just stick with the factory default backdoors/spyware that'll only become an issue if you cross the wrong people.

  23. Dennis, I am thinking of getting an iphone 6 from att prepaid. I would like to use freedompop's sims. I understand that works easily. However, I was hoping to unlock it as well. A rep said I can pay for paygo. Do you think I can activate paygo and switch out the sim and use freedompop? Or once I activate on paygo, the phone can only be used with att prepaid. I know it is a long shot but you may know.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm thinking that since the Freedompop LTE sims are AT&T based, it might work already? I need to try that...I just bought 2 of these phones for friends of ours and they have not gotten them from me yet, so I will check this idea out.
