Cricket Wireless to Launch ZTE Overture 3 and Alcatel QUICKFLIP, Sprint to Offer BLU S1

cricket wireless new phones

Affordable smartphones are getting all the rave lately, especially after it's been confirmed that they are headed to some of the largest prepaid phone brands in the market.

Cricket Wireless

For starters, Cricket Wireless earlier announced that it will be adding in two new devices to its lineup: the ZTE Overture 3 and the Alcatel QUICKFLIP.

Let's talk about the ZTE Overture 3 first. Cricket Wireless announced that this device will be offered free to customers who switch and subscribe to a plan worth $30 or more. Another option to get this device is to pay $49.99 for it for new and existing customers.

As of this writing, only a few ZTE Overture 3 specs have been released. It's confirmed that this device will be equipped with a 5-inch display, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, HD voice, and FM radio.

The other device coming to Cricket Wireless is the Alcatel QUICKFLIP, which is a flip phone that comes with a 2.8-inch 320x240 screen resolution. The device includes a processor with 512MB of RAM, 1GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot for memory expansion. There is also a 2-megapixel camera, HD voice support, a built-in FM radio, and a 1,350 mAh battery. This flip phone has Wi-Fi connectivity.

Both of these devices will be launched on November 10th.

Sprint

A few months ago, it was speculated that Sprint would be introducing the BLU S1 as the first Sprint-compatible and Sprint-certified smartphone.

The BLU S1 comes with a 5.2-inch 720p curved glass display and runs on a 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage with microSD card slot. The back camera has a 13-megapixel sensor while the front has a 5-megapixel camera. The phone has a 2,800 mAh battery and runs on Android 7.0 Nougat upon release.

Although the BLU S1 doesn't have remarkable specs, it can be considered on par with other devices in its price range. The original price for this device is $179.99 but can be purchased for $129.99 through Amazon today until 11:59 pm PST November 1st only.

  1. Both of these carriers have really let themselves go over the past 2 years, so I wouldn't buy any of these.

    1. On a related note, some Walmarts currently have the Gophone XT for $20.

It should also work on Cricket, in case snyone needs a phone right now.

    2. What the heck is a "gophone xt"?

    3. It's literally the first result google.

    4. Huawei Ascend XT. Not Gophone XT.

  2. Clarification: Several websites including your favorite Phonescoop report that the BLU S1 has a MediaTek MT6750 processor. Actually, that is the chipset/system chip. The BLU S1 processor is an Octa-core, 1500 MHz, ARM Cortex-A53, 64-bit, 28 nm CPU.
Information: The BLU S1 is sold unlocked and has LTE bands 2, 4, 5 and 12 that support AT&T and T-Mobile. This is a very nice phone with an excellent build. It feels great in your hand. The curved glass and thin, curved design copy the One Plus 5 and looks similar to an iPhone 7.
Performance if very good on AT&T and Sprint, and there is no bloatware. It's a couple of steps up from my Moto E4, and well worth the $160 I paid. It was a bargain at $130 yesterday. BLU includes a silicone case and screen protector in their nice box.

    1. The ARM Cortex-A53 CPU is also used in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, 421, 415, 425, 427, 430, 435, 610, 615, 616, 617, 625, 626, 650, 652, 653, 810, 808 and 835.

    2. In higher end SOCs including the SD 650, 652, 653, 808 and 810 the low power A53 is used in conjunction with 2 or more higher powered A57 or A73 cores. The SD 835 has 8 A73 cores and no A53s.

The MT6750's 40,458 Antutu score falls between the SD 425's 36,868 and SD 617's 45,237.

    3. You are right, and Wikipedia is wrong. Qualcomm’s licensed the minimal IP from ARM and designed its first fully-custom 64-bit CPU core, Kryo that is used in SD 835.

    4. Qualcomm says for SD 835: CPU Cores: 8 x Kryo 280 CPU

  3. Cricket and Sprint are the 2 worst carriers you can go to right now. One is desperately try to sell thier company, the other is slowest Prepaid service on the market.

    1. Cricket is a lot faster than T-Mobile on average, at least until T-Mobile completes its expansion of coverage.

That third of the country with 0 speed on T-Mobile compared to 8 Mbps in Cricket really drags down T-Mobile's showing. Cricket is faster than any MVNO on Sprint or T-Mobile.

(You won't find this out from "reports" such as Tom's Guide, which declares T-Mobile to be fastest after surveying just 6 locations which are cherry picked to make TMO look good)

Cricket is one of the best choices for those who actually want to use their phones, though those who really have to save money might find something on the two worse carriers acceptable if they think it is OK to have their phones get no signal much of the time.

    2. Considering Cricket is throttled to 8mbit, its not even faster than Tracfone. T-Mobile is ranked the fastest by every accepted metric on the market. There is a reason AT&T is losing customers every quarter for like 2 years. AT&T has more coverage holes than T-Mobile and Sprint combined. Cricket can spend all they want on advertising, but they're losing customers to Boost and MetroPCS at staggering rates. What good is a Cricket signal if every call drops, texts don't go through, and data speeds are leftover capacity?

    3. Anon November 2, 2017 at 10:21 - Quite obviously you only can see magenta. Let's be real. I've moved from Tmo to cricket and would never go back. Reality is that I can now actually use my device outside city limits for once, not so with magenta!!

  4. The Alcatel quickflip is the same phone as the boost mobile go flip with the exception of hd voice in the quick flip
