MetroPCS Fights Back With a "Best Free Phone Event Ever"

metropcs-best-free-phone-event-ever
Just a few days ago, Boost Mobile launched a promotion called "Switch Off MetroPCS". The Sprint-owned prepaid brand used this promotion to entice MetroPCS users to switch to their network. The ones that decide to switch get to have a couple of months of free service with the new $60 per month Unlimited Plus plan.

Not to take this sitting down, MetroPCS has responded to Boost Mobile's challenge by cooking up a promotion of their own. Earlier today, the T-Mobile-owned prepaid brand announced that they will be giving away free Android phones to new customers who decide to port-in their number. MetroPCS has even called this promotion "MetroPCS Best Free Phone Event Ever."

If you are interested in this offer, you simply need to activate service from one of MetroPCS' Unlimited LTE plans: the $50/month plan that gives you unlimited talk, text, and 4G LTE data with optimized video streaming up to 480p resolution; or the $60/month plan that gives you unlimited talk, text, and 4G LTE unthrottled data with HD video streaming and 10GB of mobile hotspot.

You can then take your pick from one of the devices available for free under this promotion:

  • Alcatel A30 Fierce
  • Alcatel Fierce 4
  • Alcatel GO FLIP
  • Alcatel TRU
  • Coolpad Defiant
  • HTC Desire 530
  • LG Aristo
  • LG Aristo 2
  • LG K20 Plus
  • LG Stylo 3
  • Moto E4
  • Samsung Galaxy J3 Prime
  • Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime
  • Samsung Galaxy On5
  • ZTE Avid 4
  • ZTE Avid TRIO
  • ZTE Blade Z Max
  • ZTE Cymbal Z-320

There is also an option to get the Apple iPhone SE 32GB for free once you switch to MetroPCS. You can click on the link to get more information about this offer.

The MetroPCS Best Free Phone Event Ever is available at participating MetroPCS stores for a limited time only. Phone numbers that have been active on T-Mo's network during the last 30 days are excluded from the offer.

  1. Any of these good for tethering without having to pay the ransom (for which if there ever was a legitimate justification, there certainly isn't anymore)? I'm fine if rooting is required, just wanna know which ones are good for it without having to spend hours researching every single one. I know Metro-TMobile likes to make "illegal" tethering extremely hard.

    3. If you use up the 10 GB of hotspot on Metro's $60 plan, hotspot is throttled to 128 kbps until the end of the plan month.

  4. Not a bad selection of the higher end of the budget phone market! I see MetroPCS brought back HD video streaming for the 60.00 a month plan. I guess they kind of had to do that in order to compete with boost.

    1. "A free phone is nice but Boost gives you free hot-spot and phone discounts"

Boost has a lot smaller coverage than MetroPCS, which means that unlike with MetroPCS, most Boost users will not be able to use a hot-spot in most places.

So yeah, it should go without saying that a hotspot that doesn't work most of the time SHOULD be free.

  8. The iPhone SE deal is fantastic, unlike the androids you know that phone will be updated to the latest iOS, a clear win for customers.
Let’s see how boost and cricket respond to this.

    1. But you forget that the iPhone SE is painfully tiny and out of date, and we are STILL waiting for IOS to have a working file system... something Android has had since before Froyo.

You can get a much cheaper Android with an actually usable larger screen, a replaceable battery, a robust user-focused OS that allows apps from any source and full file access, and micro SD, for less money than an iPhone SE.

And friends don't let friends buy phones with 32GB which are crippled due to design flaws where you can't add memory to this low amount.

I agree. The SE is the perfect iPhone if you do a lot of .... phoning.
It's fast and smooth, with a sharp, bright screen and is perfect for convenient one-handed use.

The SE won't please most video junkies, esp those who can't afford a real video player, a tablet.

    1. Both Huawei and ZTE are selling the lowest priced to quality phones on the market. When they were not impacting Samsung or Iphone sales there was no security threat warning. Best Buy sells out of the ZTE $20 to $40 Simple Mobile phones faster than the Simple Mobile $600+ Samsung or Iphones so the only real threat is economic loss for Samsung and Apple
