Updated 3/30: Prepaid Phones on Sale This Week: Mar 25 - Mar 31

Welcome to the latest edition of Prepaid Phone News' Prepaid Phones on Sale this Week feature. Here are the best current deals on prepaid and unlocked phones that I've found online and in stores.

This week's Deal of the Week is the TracFone LG Fiesta 2 16 GB LTE Android phone, on sale at HSN for $79.95 bundled with 1500 minutes, texts and MBs of data, one year of service, a generic case and car charger. The airtime alone is worth $100 and the phone's list price is $99.99 making this is an excellent deal for current or would be TracFone users.

The LG Fiesta 2 is arguably TracFone's best mid-range Android phone. It runs on Verizon and comes with Android 7.0 Nougat. There's a Snapdragon 425 SOC, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB (9.83 usable) of internal storage and a 5.5 inch 720x1280 px screen. Cameras are 13 MP rear and  5 MP rear. A large 4500 mAh, albeit non-removable battery, promises long battery life. USB OTG lets you connect thumb drives and other USB accessories using an inexpensive adapter. There's a memory card slot that takes cards cards up to 2 TB.

  1. "Unlocked iPhone 6s 64 GB (manufacturer refurbished) $210.95 on eBay"
Links to a "C" conditions factory unlocked phone from a Brooklyn NY seller, no where in description does it say Apple refurbished that I can see, at least not on mobile site.

    1. The first line of the listing says "Manufacturer Refurnished".

I'm sure it's not Apple refurbished. eBay's definition of manufacturer refurbished is "An item that has been professionally restored to working order by a manufacturer or manufacturer-approved vendor."

    1. There are several on YouTube; battery life lg fiesta 2 at DuckDuckGo The one I looked at showed 71% battery left after 44 hours with four hours screen on time

  3. Also price on that 6s is $219.95, not $210.95

Does this wording really reassure that Apple did the refurb. including new, quslity battery?

    "Condition:
Manufacturer refurbished. An item that has been professionally restored to working order by a manufacturer or manufacturer-approved vendor. This means the product has been inspected, cleaned, and repaired to meet manufacturer specifications and is in excellent condition. This item may or may not be in the original packaging. See the seller’s listing for full details. See all item conditions
    Seller Notes :
100% working order. Each phone was professionally checked. Comes in the box with charger. GSM Unlocked."

But then it does ibrs a scratch & dent C condition phone? Maybe CYA maybe deceptive listing.

    1. I've corrected the price. I don't know if the seller raised it or I fat fingered it.

  4. The Fiesta 2 simple mobile w/$50 unlimited plan is $60 on Amazon, seems like a solid deal though I think it's that price with prime.

  5. Do any of the TMO PPD phones listed have 71? If not, this offer is not competitive with your Tracfone listing and TMO needs to offer something better.

    1. The only currently available phones that support band 71 are the LG V30 and V30 Plus, and the Samsung S9, s9+ and S8 Active. It will be a while before 71 support trickles down to free phones :)

    2. Too bad, now I fear we might have to wait for the 5g phones to arrive before we see an abundance of 71.

    3. IMO B71 support is a time-to-market issue, as supporting chipsets need to be available before phones can incorporate them. I don't think it's a "premium" feature issue. I expect B71 support to be in this year's phones, most of which have yet to appear.

I'm keeping tabs on the Moto G6 and E5 families, with imminent release in April. I expect the US variants to have B71 support.

  6. The Stylo 3 Plus and Verizon E4 are the only phones worth buying thanks to everyone else ruining theirs with hybrid sim slots.

Want to swap your sim or take out your SD card?

Tough shit, you already lost the tiny inconvenient tray popping tool that only worked half the time anyway.

    1. A straightened paperclip works perfectly as a SIM removal tool.

    2. I'll be sure to tell the TSA that when they ask why I'm carrying a pocket full of paperclips, but something tells me they won't quite understand the first world problem of phones whose sims you can't remove without a separate thin piece of metal.

      https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.carbonated.tv/amp/tsa-airport-security-things-not-allowed-on-planes

Honestly, hybrid sim slots without an external ejection button are still a mistake.

    3. The paper clip ends usually break the side of the hole used to pull out the tray after several times but works good without damaging the tray hole when not swapping sims often so if not using Tmobile or ATT where sim swapping is common paper clip works. Are there any other prepaid carriers or MVNOs that allow sim card swapping to approved eligible phones besides Tmobile and ATT prepaids?

    4. I think I can go through one vacation with just a single paperclip for SIM removal, can't you?

Besides, if you have a pocket full of paperclips, they will think you are an office supply nerd not a terrorist.

    5. Paper clips have damaged many sim/sd card trays especially in LG phones. ATT and T-Mobile users swap Sims between phones and their trays get damaged more than others that use the tray once to load sim and card

    6. I've been using paper clips to pop the SIM trays out of phones, including LG phones, for at least three years and haven't damaged anything yet.

I don't see how using a paperclip is any more likely to to damage the tray than using the official tool that comes with phones. They are both just pokey pieces of stiff wire. If doesn't take much force to eject the SIM. The clip or tool isn't going to bend or break unless you use excessive force.

    7. I don't think I have ever used the official supplied tool to pop a SIM tray out. Over many years (5+?) of traveling overseas a few times a year swapping SIMS I have never damaged a tray/ejection mechanism. Don't shove something too big (fat) in & GENTLE, no issues.

      Delete
    8. Some of the SIM slots, especially the pivot w/lock type that resided under the battery in older GSM phones were very fragile & finicky. The trays can have issues also but so could the old style slots. Separate memory card slot would be nice but I don't see that happening on new phones the trend is "all sealed up".

Aren't SIM cards going away in a few years, replaced by eSIM or something??

      Delete
    9. Some people are so clueless they try to PULL the SIM tray out with a paperclip rather than PUSHING it in to release the lock. The tray will only break around the hole if you try to pull it out by scraping the paperclip at an angle while inserted.
Non-readers break all kinds of stuff.

    2. $229.99 is a very good price for a refurb Pixel. This is a much better phone than a Moto G5.

  9. Back in stock, but still a refurb going for more than a new Moto G5, with the new Motos coming out in April.

Refurbs are incredibly overpriced, when they should really be going for fire sale prices.

    1. Blu's a non-starter because of various spyware and bricking issues.

They don't have the resources in place to ensure quality hardware and software, which is a sore piint when the market's matured to where phones need to be "good enough" in order to sell.

Coupled with moto's new devices coming down the pipe, and it's not a good time to be releasing generic GSM-only phones without Oreo, NFC, removable batteries or Verizon volte.

The E5 hits three of those points, while Blu's Vivo series hits none.
