New Mobile Service App Offers a $40 Unlimited Monthly Plan

visible-mobile-phone-service
A new mobile service app has just entered the very competitive market. Called Visible, the company is a Verizon-backed, invite-only service with an MVNO-like strategy.

The company was funded by Verizon Wireless earlier this year and holds its headquarters in Denver with a total of about 50 employees.  It looks like Visible is ready to accept nationwide customers as it has started to announce its only plan-- a $40/month plan that comes with unlimited data, minutes, and messaging services.

If you are interested in subscribing to this service, you simply have to download the Visible app and register using your unlocked device. As soon as you're done with the registration process, you will be receiving your own sim card. This will give you access to Visible's service under Verizon's 4G LTE network. Since Visible offers unlimited service, the company says they do not throttle at the end of the month.

Despite receiving funding from Verizon, Visible maintains that they "operate independently and do things differently in the phone service category." And contrary to what other companies practice, Visible allows its customers to make payments through internet-based services like Venmo and PayPal.

As of this writing, the app is available only on iOS and subscriptions are done via invitations. If you don't receive an invite, you will have to look for someone who's an existing Visible member to send you an invitation.

  5. Echoing vvk's question...is it a hotspot as well? That would be a game-changer if so.

  6. I went to the web site and it looks like its max download speed is 5 mbps. Maybe not so much a game-changer after all.

  7. Don't forget the 5 Mbps throttle (and 1.5 Mbps on video) .... It's like Verizon's version of Cricket.

There's also no support or roaming.

If you still want a referral code, you can get one on Reddit's /r/NoContract by messaging the guy who started the thread about it (he works for Visible).

    1. Depends what you want and what you do. Cable and DSL aren't available at all where I am, 5mbps is faster than I can get for home internet (aside from satellite). Hopefully the upcoming hotspot feature will be ok for infrequent backup use when my home Internet is down. Also, what does an ~average person do on a phone that requires more? Might be worse than Cricket, but since ATT, Tmobile, and Sprint are a minimum of 30 to 70 miles away for any service at all, I'm only concerned with what's available that works on Verizon. 480p restriction, wouldn't a VPN get around that? It would be nice to have an uncapped plan and be able to use Netflix a little (less than a few hundred households on the towers here, no congestion, don't think a half hour streaming every few days would be too much).

If you want a home Internet cellular hotspot, you're better off with AT&T's unlimited LTE prepaid "iPad" plan. It's only $30 a month, and the SIM can be used in any hotspot. There's no 5 Mbps / 1.5 Mbps video throttle.

    3. Is that at&t $30 prepaid iPad plan a stand alone price or is it that price only as an added "line" to a prepaid phone account?

$30 unlimited LTE prepaid "iPad" plan?

Only seeing $25/$50/$75 for 2/5/8 GB at at&t prepaid. Please point me to what I'm missing.

    6. I thought the tablet plan only worked in a tablet. Now it works with Hotspots?

As I stated, no ATT service here, so that wouldn't work. A 30 mile drive one way any time I'd want service would not be convenient.

      That's the stand-alone price.

    1. How will you port the app to Android?

    2. An activated sim shouldnt need an app to work in another phone, it should just be pop and go.

  11. iOS only?

At least Sprint gave out a year of free service to go with your expensive fruit phone.

    1. BYOD free year from sprint postpaid did not require an iPhone. Unlocked compatible phone (ios, android, windows) and pass a credit check is all.

    2. OP was referring to Virgin Mobile, which originally gave a free year but required you to buy their phone. Later they allowed BYOD and gave 6 months free.
