LG Stylo 4 is Now Available at Cricket Wireless for $229

The LG Stylo 4 is the latest smartphone device to be offered by Cricket Wireless.

Earlier today, the AT&T prepaid brand unveiled the news that they will be offering this mid-priced smartphone. Other carriers call the LG Stylo 4 as the LG Q Stylus. But for Cricket Wireless, the device has been rebranded to a different name.

The specs on the LG Stylo 4 stay the same as the Q Stylus. The device comes with a 6.2-inch screen with Full Vision 2160x1080 resolution. From within, there is a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. There is a microSD card slot for expandable memory of up to 2000GB.

Camera-wise, the Stylo 4 can take pictures with its 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing sensor. It also includes a 3300mAh battery, USB-C, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity. The device also comes with IP68 protection against water and dust. Users also have the option to use a stylus whenever they want to write something down on their device. Upon release, Android 8.1 Oreo is running on the device. It comes in either black or metallic lavender frame.

This particular model is also available from MetroPCS at a cheaper price. The difference, however, is that the MetroPCS model only includes 2GB of RAM.

As announced, Cricket will be offering this smartphone for $229 starting tomorrow, June 29th. You can get it with one of Cricket's prepaid plans:

  • $30 per month - includes unlimited talk, text and data with the first 2 GB at high speeds
  • $40 per month - includes unlimited talk, text and data with the first 5 GB at high speeds
  • $55 per month - includes unlimited talk and text and unlimited data at speeds of up to 3 Mbps
  • $60 per month - includes unlimited talk and text and unlimited high speed data
High speed data on Cricket is capped at 8 Mbps.

  1. "$60 per month - includes unlimited talk and text and unlimited data with uncapped speeds"
doesn't cricket cap speeds at 8mbps?

    1. looks like the $30 and $40 plans are 8Mbps and $60 is unlimited!

    2. Unless something changed very recently, the $60 plan is 8 mbps too. What makes you think otherwise?

  2. Hmmm....

MetroPCS with unthrottled speeds, more LTE coverage, and cheaper phone
    or
Cricket with throttled speeds, less LTE coverage, and expensive phone.

    1. Except that nationwide Cricket has far more LTE coverage than MetroPCS, it's not even close.

    2. Cricket has far more coverage, period. It's not just LTE.

IF you want your phone service to be reliable, Cricket isn't perfect, but the network it is on is, at this time, a lot better than the network MetroPCS is on.

    3. Dennis, T-Mobile actually covers more POPs with LTE than AT&T.

    4. I've seen that claim by T-Mobile. It apparently includes roaming coverage and there's no data roaming on MetroPCS.

For an unbiased comparison compare T-Mobile's own map of their native coverage: Personal Coverage Check - T-Mobile with Cricket's coverage map: Coverage Map - Cricket.

  3. Pricey for a carrier locked phone.

    1. True, but in a couple months you'll likely be able to find ebay unlocks for less than $10.

    2. Looks like there are already cheap unlock codes on ebay for it...

  4. Will this LG Stylo 4 phone be available on AT&T's Prepaid GoPhone soon?
Wouldn't that be able to use on other AT&T MVNO's instantly?

Can this Cricket LG Stylo 4 be used on other AT&T or T-Mobile MVNO's instantly by just popping in a sim?

    1. you can use a cricket sim with an at&t phone, but an unlocked cricket phone is required for any other sim to work, even an at&t one.

    1. No such animal exists, but that's the actual maximum the SDXC spec supports.

    2. The biggest microSD currently is 512 GB. Prices start at around $200

  6. More expensive than the unlocked $200 Moto g6 (with Cricket airtime) at Best Buy, locked down for 6 months, and burdened with unnecessary firmware tweaks (i.e. uninstallable bloatware).

It's also marred by LG's legacy of shoddy craftsmanship.

They even refused to fully comply with a legally binding settlement, and swiftly reduced compensation to consumers who were affected by their trademark bootloop.

LG obviously hasn't learned a thing or improved in any way, so their meme phones remain little more than a running gag.

    Buy at your own risk.

  7. Christine, can you *please* vary your word choices a little? I'm soooo tired of the "from within" phrase.

  8. The phonescoop specs for this phone has NFC only for the T-Mobile/MetroPCS version.

  9. hi, Dennis, if you please include a line in write-ups, such as this one, how long is lock-up period, that will be great.

Thanks, again for reviews like these.

    1. It's the same for all Cricket phones. Cricket will unlock the phone after six months of paid service.

  10. Hopefully not off topic, but recently switched from cricket to att prepaid. Speeds are awful. DL is Max 10mbps, but UL barely breaks 1mbps, most times in the 700-800kbps range, regardless where I travel. So much for unthrottled!!

  11. With the activation fee this phone is $254. There are a number of better unlocked phones with Qualcomm 6XX processors in that price range.

It appears Cricket does not want new customers.
