Updated 6/9: Prepaid Phones on Sale This Week: June 3 - June 9

LG Premier Pro
Welcome to the latest edition of Prepaid Phone News' Prepaid Phones on Sale this Week feature. Here are the best current deals on prepaid and unlocked phones that I've found online and in stores.

This week's Deal of the Week is the TracFone LG Premier Pro 16 GB LTE Android phone with 1200 minutes, texts and MBs of data, one year of service, case and car charger for $99.95 at HSN.

You can get an extra $15 off, making the price $84.95 by paying with MasterCard's MasterPass. MasterPass works with any credit or debit card, a MasterCard is not required. You can eroll in MasterPass on the HSN checkout screen.

The TracFone LG Premier Pro operates on the Verizon network, runs Android 7.1 Nougat and has a Snapdragon 425 SOC, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB internal memory (9.56 GB usable), a 5.3 inch 720x1280px TFT screen, SD card slot and a non-removable 2,880 mAh battery. There's an 8 MP main camera with LED flash and autofocus and a 5 MP front facing camera.

The phone uses TracFone Smart Phone Only airtime and, like all recent TracFone smartphones, is not a triple minute phone.

The Premier Pro is one of TracFone's best mid-range Android phones. It sells for $99.99 on the TracFone website and the airtime is worth about $100 so this is an excellent deal if you are a current or potential TracFone customer.

Don't buy this phone if you expect to unlock it for sale or use on another carrier. The phone is locked to TracFone very tightly. TracFone requires the phone to be used for 12 months before they will unlock it. Third party unlocking services are generally unable t0 unlock TracFones.

  1. Just thought you should know that the LG Fortune is free at Cricket wireless for new numbers as well as port-ins

  2. Just finished testing the new BLU Pure View. 2:1 screen, dual-SIM, Sony camera, dual front cameras, fast charging.
Compared to my Idol 4S, this phone is responsive for normal use (3GB RAM and 8 cores) but a little slower. It has a much brighter screen that works well in sunlight. It’s narrower, thinner, and more comfortable even though its 5.7” display is larger. Beautiful build with metal back, tight seams and curved display. Dual SIM works fine. Sony camera takes nice pix and video. Face unlock and fingerprint sensor work well. It has two cameras in front and I like the wide-angle option. BLU includes a thin case, and a screen saver is already installed (plus one spare).
At $129 on intro sale, Amazon this unlocked phone is an excellent value. I like it better than the chubby Motos.

    1. I'm not a fan of BLU at all.

But I'm very glad that a low-end phone like this is driving home that a 5.7 inch screen is the minimum standard for a mobile phone.

    2. A 5.7" 16:9 display makes for a very wide phone - too wide for most people to use comfortably. It has to be a 18:9/2:1 to be usable with one hand, like the 5.8" iPhone X.

    3. I'm thoroughly enjoying my 5.2" 16.9 aspect ratio Moto e5 play. :)

    4. Not at all, this is a very comfortable size. As reflected by the very strong and growing sales of phones in the size category.

    5. Shows $150 for me, plus I thought I read it isn't fully compatable with Tmo.

      Delete
    6. The Pure View is still $129.99 on Amazon. All Tmo main bands are supported.
If you want Band 66 and 71, pay $100 more for a new LG K30. That LG phone is wider, thicker, has smaller display, the cameras are not as good and battery is smaller.

      Delete
    7. That LG K30 has 2GB RAM, vs 3GB. No face unlock. Unknown camera f/stop. Lower screen pixel count. Unknown whether back is plastic or ? No dual-SIM.

  3. How much $$ do you have to add in service to get the Verizon iPhone SE unlocked? Website mention the amount is printed on the box?
Seems at $159 + service it is cheaper than picking up a ST version and have to wait 12 months to unlock?

    Replies
    1. You need to add $150 in service, then you can get it unlocked by requesting it from their customer service. It says it in the back of the box.

      Delete
    2. Better than ST time wise but I guess one has decide how to to get the best bang for the $150 while on Verizon prepaid.

    3. How much $ do you have to add (aka ransom) to get the Verizon Prepaid Moto E5 unlocked ?

      Delete
    4. Thanks for the responses, I guess the ransom is partially based on the retail value of the phone? I think the Moto E4 is "only" $70.
Wanted to move it to Xfinity Mobile so not really much savings there. iPhone SE is OS through XM, I have to wonder if they are holding back stock because of the $200 back offer?

  4. Does anyone know if Boost has updated their BYOD list? I just checked the IMEI of an unlocked Nexus 6 and it was accepted. The BYOD list Boost has posted currently does NOT list the Nexus 6.
The success message tells me to buy a SIM but the CONTINUE button does nothing.

"Great news! Your phone is compatible with our network. Now all you need is a Boost Mobile SIM."

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That sounds like typical Sprint incompetence.

Are you checking the IMEI at https://activate.boostmobile.com/bring-your-phone

It sounds like you are using a different checker because that page won't tell me success ("Congratulations") or failure ("Bummer") until AFTER I click the Continue button.
It let me order a SIM when I entered an eligible iPhone 6 IMEI.

If you are willing to gamble $10 you can buy Boost SIM kits at Best Buy, Amazon, Target and see if Boost will activate it. Or ask a Boost Mobile dealer if they can activate the Nexus 6.

  5. can i buy a phone from carriers like boost but only use it with my wifi without every getting minutes from the carrier

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, you can use an un-activated phone as a WiFi tablet.

      Delete
    2. Very true, Dennis. For a couple of years I used some nicely subsidized and unactivated Tracfone handsets as "wifi tablets", to play music and youtube and other such things. Remembering some nice LG Tracfones that ordinarily cost $80 and had relatively high specs that I got for $20 each.

It might be tricky sometimes to turn them on and bypass the carrier activation screen, but it is always possible. Good deals!

      Delete
  6. Thank you Dennis. I did use the IMEI checker on the Boost page you listed. I suspect it is an error because the red continue button did not take me to a new page to buy a SIM.

I already have a phone on Boost that uses a nano SIM. Could I use that SIM to test the Nexus 6 along with the IMEI swap under MyBoost? I am trying to avoid paying the $10 reactivation fee for used phones if my attempt to swap to the Nexus 6 fails and I have to reactivate my current Boost phone.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Swapping SIMs on Sprint doesn't work unless Sprint assigns the new IMEI to the SIM.

Also, not all Sprint nano SIMs are interchangeable. The Nexus 6 can only use SIMGLW446C or SIMOLW506C. Other SIMs even if the right size will not work. The later is the one in the kits sold by Best Buy, etc. See How to Determine Which Sprint SIM Works in Your Phone | Prepaid Phone News.

  7. They are also great GPS/MP3 players for cars. You can download maps to the phone so no data connection is needed! Having a dedicated music player is nice too if you have a bluetooth or aux input in the car.

  8. Thinking of replacing your older iPhone 5S, 6 or iPad Mini 2 because it seems slow even with a good battery? Apple previewed iOS 12 today. It will perform simple tasks like opening apps on older hardware up to twice as fast. I'm holding off replacing our Mini 2 iPads until I can try them with iOS 12.

    3. The iPhone SE 32gb new is $432 at T-Mobile retail stores but if you buy a T-Mobile sim for $10 and activate in the store on a $50 plan the $432 price is reduced to $399. Considering that the iPhone SE 32gb sells for $349 unlocked at Apple where are these prepaid T-Mobile phone sales? What state, city?

      Delete
    4. T-Mobile charges 99c more than Apple, $349.99 for the SE. You have to pay $25 for a SIM kit. $374.99 plus any sales tax.

      Delete
    5. Ask for the $225 refill promotion. iPhone SE is then sold for $99. And tmobile doesn't charge prepaid for a SIM.

      Delete
    6. You can even choose the paygo plan for the iPhone SE $225 promo, and use up the balance with $10/1GB/7 day data passes.

  13. iOS 12 doesn't change the fact that only the Plus variants, which Apple charges a hefty premium on, are the only iPhones big enough to be used comfortably by adult men.

Until Apple addresses this clearly sexist "price gap," I'm afraid fruit phones will never grace the lint-filled interior of my pockets.

    1. I think only insecure men would think that the iPhone Plus models are "big enough." It's not the size the matters; it's what you can do with it.

    3. "I think only insecure men would think that the iPhone Plus models are big enough. It's not the size the matters; it's what you can do with it."

And you can do a lot more with an iPhone Plus or a similarly sized Android. Because it's not painfully small and the size is just right for typing on it and viewing the screen.

There's nothing insecure about wanting something that's the adequate size for human beings, and not too small to use.

      Delete
    4. You can't do much, let alone proper split screen multitasking, with a screen that small.

With that said, there is such a thing as too big to handle.

But a measely sub-5in phone doesn't even come close.

      Delete
    5. I guess some men have better dexterity with their hands and fingers than others.
Blaming the phone for being "too small" sounds like a bad excuse.

The original iPhone became a smash hit with a 3.5" screen, and stayed that way for 5 years. Screen size didn't stop it from being the most popular cellphone. The only big thing that is changed is the amount of addictive video watched by users. Get a tablet for that; big cellphones are too awkward and compromised.
A 7.9" iPad Mini 4 is the perfect tool for video and web, and a great companion for a normal-sized 4.7" iPhone. The iPad can make and receive calls, messages using your cellphone's number, and FaceTime chats are better on the iPad too.

      Delete
    6. "Get a tablet for that; big cellphones are too awkward and compromised"

There's absolutely nothing awkward about a phone that's close to 6 in in screen size. It's a perfect size with no compromise at all.

The so-called normal size 4.7 in iPhone is out-dated and too small... And the only reason it's sold as well as it did was because better or usable phones with larger screen sizes really weren't available.

      Delete
    7. The original iPhone was so unusual that it would have been a Smash Hit if it had a 1.5" screen. The only reason it had a 3.5" screen instead of something larger was to save costs on a phone that already had a very high sticker price.

      Delete
    8. "The only big thing that is changed is the amount of addictive video watched by users"

The idea of addictive video is purely imaginary and has no basis in science. The person who hates the idea of a properly sized phone who keeps bringing up addicted video is thinking of an episode of The Max Headroom show from ABC in the 1980s?

Anyway, it is purely imaginary. Everything is made better on a 5.7 inch phone including video. Nothing is made worse.

I won't even go much into the idea from the troll that instead of carrying a nice properly sized phone, people should carry a phone that's too tiny to use along with an actual tablet everywhere they go.

    9. This topic has been beaten to death. I don't understand the obsession over phone size that's degenerated into personal attacks (which I did not publish).

Some people like big phones, some like small phones, neither is right or wrong or good or bad. Buy what you like and let others do the same.

    1. I don’t trust non-manufacturer refurbs. The battery likely isn’t replaced.

      Delete
    2. No need to trust at this price. If battery is worn, Apple will replace it for only $29.

      Delete
    3. Bet they won’t if the warranty seal has been broken.

      Delete
    4. Apple will only refuse a new battery if the phone has damage such as a cracked screen or water damage sticker is red, or the iPhone "has been tampered with." Examples: Missing battery terminal cover plate or screws. Screws floating loose inside. Missing adhesive strips on the bottom of the battery. If the screen is cracked, it must be replaced before the $29 battery replacement. I got a $29 replacement even though the iPhone had a non-OEM battery that had been properly installed.
My advice is go to the Apple Store and ask for a $29 battery replacement within the first 30 days. If there is damage, missing parts, incorrect parts or other "tampering," return the iPhone within the eBay 30-day window. Apple can check a special database to see whether the refurb shop left out CDMA parts in an iPhone 6S, for example. That happened to me once.
NOTE: The coupon code has expired, so the prices are back to normal today.

    1. Why? Save $15, free BYOD for 1 year is still being offered by Sprint. Must be "new" customer.

      Delete
    2. This also requires a new line or port in. No hotspot which the free BYOD includes (10gb), video 480p vs. the free plan 1080. Only one year then $30/mo. (free offer goes to $60). Why get this "kickstart"?

      Delete
    3. You're reading Kickstart wrong. The price goes up for lines 3-5 after one year on the plan, but not for lines 1 and 2. There is no end date for Kickstart, unlike 'free' Unlimited BYOD.
I'm getting Kickstart because I have used up my extra identities so I can't get more 'free' unlimited lines.
