AT&T Prepaid is Now Selling the iPhone SE for Only $49.99

at&t-prepaid-iphone-se-$49.99
If you've been meaning to get your hands on one of Apple's most successful devices, you're in luck!

AT&T has just announced a promotion for the Apple iPhone SE for its prepaid customers.

According to the report, AT&T Prepaid is now offering the iPhone SE for only $49.99. In order to qualify for the deal, you need to activate a new line of service under any monthly plan offered by the brand. Along with this, you have to purchase a refill card of at least $30. Both purchases must be made under one transaction so you can get the discount on the iPhone SE.

Considering there are still several carriers that sell the iPhone SE for $350, this $49.99 is quite a steal. The deal is available for a limited time period but it's not going away anytime soon.

As revealed on PhoneArena, you can get the iPhone SE for this price until September 27th. This means there's still time for you to decide whether you should buy the iPhone SE. The catch, however, is that this promotion is only available in-store.

At a price of $49.99, do you think the iPhone SE is still a good deal?

  1. Which model does ATT sell?

Does it have good support for Sprint? Verizon? TMobile's new bands?

Does still offer unlocking almost immediately?

    Thank you

    1. Model A1662. Will work fine on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint. Does have band 12. Apple lists a separate model for Sprint.

AT&T requires 6 months of activity for the free unlock.

    2. I believe you meant "Will work fine on AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile." A1662 can work on Sprint but is missing Band 41. It does not have T-mobile's Band 71 either. Source: https://everymac.com/systems/apple/iphone/iphone-faq/differences-between-iphone-se-a1662-a1723-a1724-models.html

    3. My SE 1662 worked fine on Sprint without band 41. This phone is also missing band 66 for T-Mobile, so it only has their basic bands. Including 12.

    4. The SE is a 32 GB mmodel. Picked up one on Frida, 9\14. It feel like a toy because it's so small. But I'm happy; great price.

  2. What do you mean "The catch, however, is that this promotion is only available in-store" ?

"in-store" do you mean I can walk into any Walmart or Best Buy to get this deal?

    1. The store will activate the phone on the $30 plan or greater. One day before your plan ends, you can switch to the cheapest plans, the 25c/minute or the $2/day plan. These plans cost a minimum of $25 top-up every 90 days. Save 10% using Callingmart.

    2. Anon 2:38, you are correct. I just purchased an SE from the ATT store and put it on the thirty dollar unlimited talk and text plan with no data.

They said they still have at least three in stock even after I purchased mine, so they are still out there in some stores.

Does one have to wait for the day before your plan ends to switch to the twenty-five cent per minute plan or can it be switched a few more days (say three days) before so that one does not have to wait until the last minute?

      Delete
    3. I got the $35 plan with 1GB, but since I signed up for Autopay in the store they sold it to me for $30 minimum plan charge for the first month. Then I waited until day 28, cancelled Autopay and switched to the $2/day plan (I buy data pass as needed). Callingmart pin with 10% discount.
You can switch online in your account. After my $25 is used up, I will buy another PIN from Callingmart for 10% off.
TIP - Remember: incoming sms will not trigger the $2/day charge.

    4. Doesn't have to be a $300 phone. Mine will cost just $133.
I will use one of the least expensive plans after the first month, $25 every 90 days.

    5. Mine cost $83.50 with taxes. This iPhone works best on AT&T carriers so I’m not going to unlock it.

  8. That's odd, it looks like an in-store only special price. I knew that Metro and Cricket do that, but I didn't realize AT&T Prepaid plays games like that also.

The AT&T Prepaid website only shows it for $194.99 ("Apple iPhone SE - AT&T PREPAID ($149.99 + $45 account credit)").

  9. The SE is still a great phone, but only if ATT's garbage plans work for you. I assume you have to stay with them for a year before you can unlock and go elsewhere.

It's 6 months of payments before they will unlock.

  10. These phones are reported to be discontinued next month so their availability in the stores will be limited for a few weeks and then no longer available, otherwise it is a good deal and maybe other MVNOs will match the deal

  12. This deal requires activation at time of purchase + a refill card of at least $30. Is this $30 the first month, or do you have to pay for first month plus $30 refill card for 2nd month.

Also, does activating this phone at time of purchase cause phone to be locked to At&T prepaid? I've read where one must remove sim card on AT&T prepaid phones before ever turning them on for first time to help ensure they work on TracFone or other MVNO's.
Will this iPhone SE be locked to AT&T prepaid upon activation at time of order?

    1. AT&T sold phones are locked to AT&T. They can, however, be used on AT&T carriers without unlock. I doubt this is different for iPhones, but they do a lot of anti-consumer things.

    2. 1. The former. 2. No, no. You remember the previous policy, where they would unlock right away if you did not activate with them. Loophole closed.

    3. have activated different at&t prepaid phone on at&t sim, and then later put my freedompop at&t LTE sim in it. still happily working on the fp att sim. do not plan to unlock that phone.

so, planning on doing this to get this iphone se for one of my sisters

this iphone is a bargain but my guess is they may only have them in black. would really want the gold/white version. guessing (hoping) it will be 32gb storage but will settle for 16gb.

    4. All AT&T Prepaid phones can be used on any AT&T provider (including Tracfone AT&T, Net10 AT&T, Cricket), no unlock necessary.

What you're thinking about is an old loophole to request a device unlock on the AT&T website for an AT&T Prepaid phone before first use. Then it could be used on non-AT&T network providers. But AT&T closed that loophole a while back.

    2. No. AT&T only unlocks AT&T Prepaid phones after 6 months of payments/use. However, they can be used on other AT&T providers without an unlock (Cricket, Straight Talk AT&T, H2O Wireless, etc.).

Or you can pay for an ebay unlock.

Re: "in-store"; the PhoneArena article cites PhoneDog, who reports the stores in question are AT&T stores. One's best bet is to find an AT&T corporate-owned store in their area.

I recently purchased an AT&T Prepaid phone on a similar deal that didn't require a store visit. But the new line of service came with an activated SIM card already inserted into the phone.

AT&T Prepaid phones are locked to AT&T's network until they've had active service on AT&T Prepaid for 6 months; AT&T Prepaid phones seem to work on AT&T MVNOs without unlocking but don't count toward the 6 months of service and some services might not work on MVNOs that aren't 'Apple-certified'. The least expensive AT&T Prepaid monthly plan is $30/mo., which includes no cellular data.

    ReplyDelete
  17. If you have ATT prepaid service you then pay $85 for the phone and a new line and then you can swap your ATT sim from one device to another so your cost is $85 for the phone. If you buy the phone and port your number to the new activation do that at time of activation because ATT charges fees for porting numbers from another carrier to a prepaid phone that has been activated previously. Those transfer fees can be as high as the cost of the phone usually in the $45 range

  18. None of the stores have it on sale for $50. Either they don't have stock or they are the full price of 349. What a scam

    1. You are wrong. All the stores have the promo display now. I just walked into my closest store, which is not a corporate store and bought one for $49.99 plus tax. Plus $30 plan first month.
The airtime PIN has to be on the same invoice for the $49.99 price to show up; otherwise it rings as $99.99. Some clerks might not know this yet.

The phone works fine on with my existing Tracfone SIM. I'll get it unlocked, but only if I can find a cheap 3rd party unlock. If anyone knows of one for this phone, I's appreciate a pointer.

This phone is a bargain at less than $100.

    3. I picked one up on Friday 9/7/18 in lieu of repairing my "free" MetroPCS SE. $59.49 (tax on "$99") out the door. Very hard to find, but they're still out there.

Not happy that AT&T is now collecting tax on prepaid. $34.39 for $35 plan after autopay discount. Will fix that once I figure which cheaper MVNO actually works 100%.

    1. Failed to get this deal in 3 attempts in 3 different ATT stores, first store had no price for the Iphone SE and asked for the $49 price and was told the phone is $200 and there never was a sale, second store again no price display while every other phone in the store had a price display, was told phone is $50 and have to buy a $50 plan to pay only $50 for the phone, third store had a display of $244 for the phone and a $45 service plan. ATT, Metropcs and Verizon independent stores make their own prices and do not follow corporate sales. Probably works better to buy a phone on sale at Walmart and do your own setup and activations to avoid storefront scams

    2. This is why I do no like "in store only," it reeks of the old "bait and switch" scam.

      Delete
    3. The above comment mentions "storefront scams". This is why I try and get as much as possible on Amazon. No having to deal with stuff which is way overpriced, surly ignorant "service", and the extremely limited hours which mean that means store fronts are closed most of the time anyway.

      Delete
    4. I just picked one up today. The ad says the deal goes through Sept 27.

I would suggest using the ATT Store Finder web page, open the page for the store you might go to, then only go to that store if the page does *not* say "Authorized Retailer".

If the store isn't an Authorized Retailer then it's a Corporate store (I think).
