Verizon Now Has New Feature for Safe Public Wi-Fi Connectivity

Not too many people know about the security dangers available whenever they connect their phone to a public Wi-Fi network. For some others, the threat is real but they do not take it seriously since they feel it won't happen to them.

Unfortunately, cyber attacks can occur at anytime and to anyone. Whenever you connect to a public Wi-Fi network, you are sending all of your data over an unsecured network. Anyone can easily intercept that data.

Thankfully, Verizon Wireless has introduced a new mobile feature that helps fight against this threat. The feature, called Safe Wi-Fi, is essentially a VPN that hides your IP address when you're connecting to a public W-Fi network. This keeps your traffic safe from potential hacks and worse-- targeted ads. Once you subscribe to it, the feature is enabled when you connect to a public Wi-Fi connection.

This feature, however, comes as an add-on to your Verizon account. It is available for iOS and Android users at a price of $3.99 per month. The good news is that it can be used on up to 10 devices, which makes it a good option for those on a family line. On that topic, Verizon has a new promotion for family prepaid accounts. Under this promotion, you can get four lines for only $100 per month.

Going back to Safe Wi-Fi, Verizon is offering the new feature as a free trial for the first 30 days. If you are interested, you can get the feature on your Verizon account.

  1. The 4 lines for $100 promotion on Verizon justifies a seperate article.

  2. wouldn't surprise me if vz funnels all that vpn info for their own gain. this is the same company that makes you opt in to their 'rewards' program and thus allowing them to basically track just about anything you do ALL for a $5 gift certificate sometimes lol

  3. Interesting that Verizon has a temporary family plan. I would consider it if the promotion didn’t end on 10/31.

  5. So this is essentially a Verizon-branded VPN which I can use (on Verizon mobile devices only) for $48 annually. Or I could subscribe to a reputable VPN service which costs less and I can use on my computer as well as mobile devices from any carrier. Hmmm, what a tough decision.

  6. It will really only protect you between your phone and the hotspot's wireless router(s). Why pay Verizon for this service at their mark-up when it can be done for much lower cost?

  7. I've tried to sing up online and get this, "Please try again after some time."So I found the app, downloaded it and it says I'm not a Verizon customer. Look at the app reviews and many people are having the same problem. Anyone have any luck getting it to work? Seems like a good idea and the price is right. BTW, I'm on Verizon prepaid, so not sure if it'll work on the prepaid side.
