The Alcatel 1 made headlines a few months ago for its affordability. At the time of its launch, it was recognized as the cheapest Android smartphone with an 18:9 display. The phone launched in Europe for 79 euros ($92) with rumors of a launch in the U.S. shortly. It looks like Alcatel did not disappoint its anticipating customers.

Earlier today, the Alcatel 1 launched in the U.S. with an even lower price tag. Instead of its original price, the Alcatel 1 can be purchased for $79.99 with free shipping. How is this possible? Through Android Go, of course.

If you've been keeping your eye out for an affordable smartphone, the Alcatel 1 is definitely worth checking out. The phone comes with a 5-inch display with a 960x480 resolution. From within, it is powered by a 1.28GHz Quad-Core MediaTek MT6739 processor with 1GB of RAM, onboard memory of 8GB, and a microSD card slot for up to 32GB memory expansion.

With its modest price, the Alcatel 1 comes with equally modest specs. Both the front and back cameras feature a 5-megapixel sensor with fixed focus lens. The back camera can record 1080p videos. The phone also comes with a 2,000 mAh battery that lasts up to 350 hours of standby time and 12 hours of talk time.

As an Android Go device, the Alcatel 1 launches with Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition). While it is available in three colors, only the Metallic Black option is available in the U.S.

If you are interested in this device, you can use it on GSM/LTE carriers, such as T-Mobile, AT&T, and MVNOs operating under their networks. You can start ordering this device from Amazon right now, where you can get it with free shipping.

    1. It is a crap phone, one befitting of the Al-Qatel brand name.

    2. I can live with 1GB RAM. I can't live with 8GB ROM.

    3. @Jon The whole point of Android Go is for Android to run smoothly on phones that are ultra-affordable with limited RAM and on-board storage.

  2. 1 Gb of RAM means the phone is crippled when a 2nd Chrome browser tab is opened with all the other background programs also aiming for that same meager 1 GB RAM. No thanks
One better phone would be the 5.5 inch Moto E4plus on Boost for the same price and unlockable later for use on all 4 wireless networks
