Project Fi Has Cancelled Its Text Forwarding Feature

Project Fi users received some bad news in their emails earlier today. The news comes after Pixel 2 XL and LG flagship deals were offered in the week.

According to reports posted on Android Police and on Reddit, Project Fi subscribers received notice that Google will be shutting down their text forwarding feature. This feature allowed subscribers to get text messages sent to a text forwarding number instead of their Project Fi phone number.

Not all Project Fi subscribers received the email. As a matter of fact, it was only sent out to subscribers who previously set up this feature on their phone. If you have set up this feature on your account, you may have received the email from Project Fi. But there is one alternative to this. All you need to do is enable Hangouts integration so you can continue receiving text messages on various devices other than your mobile phone.

Thankfully, this is the only thing that the Google MVNO service is shutting down. Project Fi's call forwarding feature remains unchanged.

The MVNO service did not reveal the reason behind this decision. They have set an end date for the feature, which will be on September 12, 2018.

  1. So it cost them more than they thought it would, and now they're cutting their losses.

    1. I guess this means Google voice text forwarding will be next?
