Verizon's RCS Chat Coming to Pixel 3 and 3 XL Tomorrow

Last month, Verizon Wireless unveiled its plans to roll out RCS Chat feature by next year. However, a new report shows that RCS Chat could be coming sooner than later.

As confirmed by The Verge, Verizon will be launching the feature on December 6th. The two devices that will offer the feature upon launch are the Pixel 3 and 3 XL. But Verizon promises other devices will offer the feature in the future.

RCS is a text messaging standard that is slated to take over traditional SMS on Android devices. Some of the features that it will come with include high-resolution images and video, typing indicators, and better group chat. The only thing missing, unfortunately, is end-to-end encryption.

In addition to replacing standard SMS, RCS will be Google's attempt at replacing Hangouts. The tech giant, however, has no plans of directly competing against the more established text messaging apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and iMessage.

Once Verizon's RCS Chat feature rolls out, it will be compatible with other carriers. The problem though is that there isn't a strong support for the feature as shown by other carriers. But once everything goes well and RCS Chat becomes more available on other smartphone models, it could  be supported by other carriers.
