Wave7 Reveals Simple Mobile, H2O Wireless, PagePlus Are Top MVNOs at Independent Dealers

Independent Prepaid Dealer Survey for Q3 2018
Wave7 Research, a company that specializes in telecom competitive intelligence analysis, has released the results of its Independent Prepaid Dealer Survey for Q4 2018. The survey tracked prepaid brand distribution and sales at 30 independent, multi-brand dealers in 15 NFL cities. Dealers were asked which prepaid brands they carry and which were their top sellers.

Based on the results of the survey, this quarter's winners are Simple MobileH2O Wireless and PagePlus. Simple Mobile was available at 29 of the 30 dealers and the top seller at 16 of them. H2O had a presence at 19 stores and a second place finish in 9 stores,  replacing Ultra Mobile from the last survey results. PagePlus weakened slightly by decreasing its presence at 16 out of 30 dealers (instead of 25 from the last) and landing top three at 6 stores.

Wave7 gave AT&T Prepaid a "momentum award" for continuously doing its best to slowly get a presence in more stores. During Q4, the company had presence at 9 dealers, 6 of which commended it as among its sales leaders.

For this quarter, Wave7 called Red Pocket, Ultra Mobile, and Metro as the survey losers. It's surprising to see Ultra Mobile on this list because it placed second in Q3 with a presence at 20 stores. Now, it only has presence in 11 stores. This was largely because of the number of dealers that dropped the brand since it was "not too popular." Red Pocket remains on this list for focusing its efforts primarily on online sales. Metro was only mentioned by a couple of reps compared to the six from the last survey.

Here's the raw data from the survey (Q3 numbers are in parentheses). Note that the Q3 survey included 31 dealers, the latest one included 30.

Once again, the TracFone brands (Simple Mobile and PagePlus) dominate the results in terms of distribution. Simple Mobile was also the top selling brand in the last survey results.

  1. Total Wireless without a doubt has reached "Total" visibily across ALL mass retailers. People have awoken to this brand for it being a VZW MVNO and also for it being The Best Deal In Wireless.

    1. Anything that involves Carlos Slime/Trashphone is never a good deal. In the end you will pay wit all or a combination of being robbed of money, your # &/or copious amounts of your time.

Doing business with Slime will always eventually lead to pain, if it hasn't happened to you yet just keep in in your happy bubble because the pin will prick given time.

    2. "Hate corrodes the vessel that carries it."

      - Sen. Simpson at Bush 41's funeral

    3. "There's a sucker born every minute"
      - Carlos Slime chanelling PT Barnum's misattributed quote every time he looks at trash phone churn #'s.

  2. I've been on H2O for a couple years. I wasn't even aware that dealers existed.

  3. @Anonymous: What does all that grousing gibberish actually mean? Apparently you had a problem with the Tracfone brand? I know many who haven't.

    1. Ignore - it's just the resident bot. Pops off every time a tracfone brand is mentioned. tracfone buys ads here so it should have been squashed by now.

    2. I don't know anyone who has not been lied to, cheated by and/or wasted days trying to resolve Slime brand issues. Some had issues early on, even while setting up / activating service, some took years to have an issue. All had pain in the end. You haven't? Give it time, lots of gullible suckers for Slime to get around to ripping off (even though millions of customers flee Slime brands every year, sometimes a million a quarter) so eventually your time will come, when it does you will get no help from trashfone, you'll be lucky to get out still in control of your #.

I manage phones for a large group of family / friends & family business accounts, when some have insisted on a trash brand I won't manage that line, all of them left having been robbed of far more than the "savings" they were going to get, some lost their #, all wasted lots of time with Slime's customer disservice circus.

    3. @ Anon December 27, 2018 at 12:54 PM

No need for bots when a company has 10's of millions of dissatisfied customers fleeing its customer disservice circus annually.

  4. Oh, and I never said that I had Tracfone based service. My comments weren't based on that.

  5. So, we've gone from "millions of customers flee Slime brands every year, sometimes a million a quarter" to "10's of millions".......like I said, unsubstantiated gibberish. Carry on!

    1. Depends on the year.

For anyone actually interested in the # fleeing they are readily available.

Continue on your merry way but the bottom line is trashfone brands is a company that has nothing but contempt for its "customers", the only thing that counts is profit.

    2. More BS from the bot. Tracfone has never had a year when "10s of millions" left, and never will.

  6. Again, I don't have their service.......

    1. No, you are just a paid apologist for them?

  7. It may not be perfect but at least they keep trying to do the right thing. Don't hate...imitation is the greatest form of flattery. MVNO's wouldn't exist today if not for TracFone. The best thing to do if you have any issues is escalate to their Resolution Team in Miami. You'd be amazed what they are willing to do to assist you and make the experience a good one.

    Things have changed!

    1. Been there done that, no help. When I then filed a complaint @ FCC and bam! 3 business days later what could and be done in nearly 6 weeks was done.

My advice would be to forget the customer disservice circus and file a govt. complaint early.

  8. i have h2o waves services for more than 3 years

  9. Absurd response......

  10. If you're referring to the 'paid apologist' comment, I'd have to agree.
