Visible Now Selling Budget-Friendly Device Worth $99

After a challenging year for ZTE, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is making a comeback in the U.S. with a humble device.

The Visible R2 is an Android Oreo smartphone that ZTE has exclusively designed for the customers of Verizon's new MVNO service called Visible.

The new device also marks a milestone for the MVNO service since it used to only accept bring your own devices (BYOD) for a while. After that, the prepaid service opened its doors to iOS devices for a few months and finally made the service available to Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ almost a couple of weeks ago.

Compared to the different smartphones offered by Visible, the ZTE device is the first to entry-level option available. The other devices currently offered all have high-end specs. The Visible R2 stands out from the crowd, especially with a $99 price tag.

Of course, the Visible R2's specs cannot be compared with the other devices available on Visible. Since it is an entry-level device, the Visible R2 comes with modest specs. To start with, there's a 5.45-inch HD+ display with a 2:1 aspect ratio. From within, the device is powered by a 1.4GHz Quad-Core processor, 16GB of onboard storage, and a 3,100mAh battery. The phone also comes with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel sensor for selfies. As mentioned, this device runs Android Oreo OS.

Right now, those are the only specs available online. But you may already purchase this phone from Visible's online store.

  1. As someone who worked for prepaid companies in the past, (not anymore) if Visible had opened up stores in the US. They would steal so many customers from Metro by T-Mobile, Cricket and Boost mobile it’s not even funny.
A $40 buck plan with unlimited everything? Yeah people will flock to that.
I know some will say oh the capped speed blah blah blah, but from experience l seen first hand, most people don’t care.
They care about price point, and 40 bucks unlimited everything will get people in the doors.
Having affordable phones like this one, will be the start of it

    1. Verizon doesn't want to canabilize their own customer base with a $40 per month plan with unlimited data.

  2. I would like to see a lower tier plan and multiline discounts.

  3. Stores at a price point of 40 bucks/month? I don't that will happen anytime soon;maybe never. I understand that Verizon is building the Visible brand without spending/buying any traditional media/advertising;all social media and gorilla marketing.

  4. How much memory is in this phone? Based on similar phones in the same price point, I guess it would be 1.5 or 2 GB.
