FreedomPop Quitting Sprint, Ting Steps In To Help

Earlier this month, it was announced that Ting Mobile has acquired a portion of FreedomPop, along with Red Pocket Mobile. The report showed that the CDMA (Sprint) customers of FreedomPop were acquired by the company last May 31st. Now, it looks like new developments are underway for these customers.

On its website, Ting revealed that FreedomPop is quitting Sprint. During the transition, they are stepping in to provide assistance to both FreedomPop and Unreal Mobile customers.

As shared by Ting, FreedomPop customers that are affected by this move now have their phone and numbers moved to them. The company also reveals that nothing else has changed with the phone service. All that's left to do is to activate service under Ting Mobile or opt to move to another carrier.

If you are one of the affected customers, Ting Mobile currently has an exclusive offer for you: a $20 plan that comes with unlimited talk, text, and 20GB of LTE data. There is also an option to get the $6 plan that includes unlimited talk and text. You can add LTE data to this option at $4 per GB.

As a special offer, the $20 for 20GB plan comes with a free first month of service. The only thing that needs to be paid are the taxes and government/regulatory fees.

If you would like to take on this exclusive offer, you will need to undergo a few steps. The first is to click here to confirm your FreedomPop account.

  5. As off 10 July, My FreedomPop phone running on Sprint is still working. I’ve not done anything different. I’m on that free plan with unlimited talk, text 1GB of data a month promotion plan.

  6. This refers only to FreedomPop's CDMA (Sprint network) customers. Those people will still be on the Sprint network after migrating to Ting.

  7. But.....ultimately they will be with Verizon.

  9. I have just prepaid for a whole year with Freedom Pop. Do those dollars transfer over or will I be refunded for the 10 months that I still have on my subscription?

    1. I just spoke with Ting about the same question. They basically told me no. The money won't be refunded by Freedom Pop and Ting has no visibility to what was paid to Freedom Pop previously. I'll be out the money I paid for my annual plan plus $15 they have from my top off credit. I doubt anything will ever happen but Freedom Pops actions are very shady. Freedom Pop knew this was coming and kept taking money for services they knew they weren't going to deliver.

    2. I have the same problem. I've been getting the rin around from both companies. Ting says they won't credit me and to talk to freedompop. Freedompop says talk to Ting because my account was sold to them.

    3. No.No transfer of FP $ or service time to ting. Ting has said "you start with a new slate" in that regard (in a SD tread).
If you want a credit back you need to deal with FP, good luck. If you paid with a credit card document, keep a log of your efforts re this with FP as you likely will fail and will need to file a dispute with your CC

  10. "The company also reveals that nothing else has changed with the phone service."

That's a funny way to phrase the fact that the lowest-tier (No monthly fee) is going away.

  11. So, for an Unreal (formerly freedom pop) customer who pays a year in advance, what will happen to my positive balance that has been paid from now until december?

  12. What about customers like myself who only have a hotspot and not a phone? I heard ZERO so far about how we're affected. To be on the safe side, I cancelled everything I have to do with Freedompop with this now worthless wifi hotspot.

  13. Can I just get a GSM unlocked phone and stay with FreedomPop? I also have 7 months left paid at Freedompop.

  14. Im going to miss Fredompop / Unreal mobile. I been on their company ( my kids phones )for 4 yearsyears. . whe Unreal come out , I was so happy . it looked very convenient and promising.

  15. I think I'm heading over to Tello's 1GB plan for $6 a month. Has anyone tried them out?
I've saved tons of $ with FPs free plan over the past 6 and a half years, so I'm okay with paying a little and I don't need to pay to port anything (if Tello charges for that) as I use Google Voice

  16. It isn't a seamless transition to Ting. Still can't send MMS text. They say it's a system issue and they're working on it but you would think if all they did was have Sprint shift the numbers over from FP then the service should be identical. Also if you can actually talk with someone at FP/Unreal you can get a refund on any unused payment. And for those die-hard Unreal Sprint customers, they will be offering CDMA service again soon. Hopefully in the next week.
