Xfinity Mobile Reaches a Milestone with 2 Million Subs

Comcast's MVNO, Xfinity Mobile, has just reached a milestone. According to their recent earnings call, the service was able to hit its highest-ever number of net additions in Q4 2019. The Verizon MVNO was able to exceed 2 million subscribers.

Xfinity Mobile had 261,000 net additions compared to 227,000 number that they recorded in Q4 2018. This is an increase of 15 percent. The executives of the MVNO shared that the bump was because of its new Apple product introductions and retail store traffic.

As a whole, Xfinity Mobile was able to add 816,000 subscribers last year. Adding this number to their previous subscriber count, the service was able to end 2019 with a whooping 2.05 million subscribers.

There was a growth of 39 percent year-on-year on Xfinity Mobile's wireless revenue in Q4 2019. The company earned $372 million, which contributed to the $1.17 billion full year total compared to the $890 million earned in 2018.

Despite this, Xfinity Mobile continued to lose money throughout the quarter. There was a net loss of $116 million, which can still be considered as a 40 percent improvement compared to the $191 million that the company lost in Q4 2018. In total, the full year loss narrowed to $401 million compared to the $743 million in 2018.

Even though this is already a remarkable milestone for the service, Xfinity Mobile needs to reach 3 million customers before they are able to break even with their finances.
