Verizon Unveils New Yahoo Mobile MVNO Service

Back in 2017, Verizon acquired the internet giant company known as Yahoo for $4.5 billion. Ever since then, Yahoo has discontinued its intensely popular instant messaging client, Yahoo Messenger, and its other services. Fast forward to today and it looks like we finally know what Verizon has in store for the business.

Earlier today, Verizon revealed that they have launched Yahoo Mobile, a new mobile service. The service offers a $39.99 per month plan that comes with unlimited talk, text, data, and unlimited mobile hotspot usage. There is also some perks, namely the ad-free email, Yahoo Mail Pro and Account Pro, which includes 24/7 Yahoo account customer service.

The Verizon MVNO offers 5-12Mbps download speeds and 2-5Mbps upload speeds. Mobile hotspot usage has a 5Mbps cap and limited to just one tethered device at a time. Video streaming is at 480p resolution.

Yahoo Mobile also has a few smartphones available:

  • Apple iPhone 8
  • Apple iPhone 11
  • Apple iPhone 11 Pro
  • Apple iPhone X
  • Apple iPhone XS Max
  • Google Pixel 3
  • Google Pixel 3a
  • Google Pixel 4
  • Google Pixel 4 XL
  • Motorola Moto Z4
  • Samsung Galaxy A50
  • Samsung Galaxy S8+
  • Samsung Galaxy S10e

You can also opt to bring your own device into the service. The compatible devices that work with Yahoo Mobile include the following:

  • Apple iPhone 6 and later
  • Google Pixel 3, Google Pixel 3 XL, Google Pixel 3a, Google Pixel 3a XL
  • Motorola Moto G7 Power
  • Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9+

You can use this compatibility checker tool to confirm if your existing device can be used on this new MVNO.

This move actually makes sense for Verizon, especially since Yahoo Mail had almost 230 million active users per month.

Apart from this new mobile service, Yahoo continues to offer email service. They also have a Yahoo Mobile app for iOS and Android for managing your plan, making payments, or buying new phones. The app accepts payments via Venmo, Apple Pay, Paypal, credit and debit cards.

  3. Verizon is so greedy.
5-12 Mbps download is inexcusably slow.
    See how Verizon is greedy!

Metro by TMobile beats that every day 24/7....
