New T-Mobile to Start Operating Mid-Summer

Back in April, T-Mobile announced that they have finally completed their merger with Sprint. The journey to this day took a few years and some struggles along the way.

Despite the fact that the merger has been completed, the two brands continued to operate individually. But this may change very soon.

In an investor conference held earlier this week, New T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert talked about their upcoming plans for the unified company. According to the executive, they originally planned to launch the New T-Mobile brand in early summer but the health crisis pushed this release to mid-summer. Once the brand is launched, it "will essentially be advertising one flagship postpaid T-Mobile brand as well as operating a unified fleet of retail, and the retail piece is why we slowed down just a little bit."

Since they merged, T-Mobile actually started combining its network with Sprint. This was also the time when T-Mobile launched its 2.5GHz 5G coverage in Philadelphia. They used the spectrum acquired from Sprint, which also allowed Sprint customers using a Galaxy S20 to use T-Mo's low-band 600MHz 5G network. The launch also allowed Sprint customers with compatible LTE devices to use roaming under the LTE network of T-Mobile.

The entire process of integrating the two will take up to 3 years.
