CES 2021: To Be an All-Digital Event in January

The major tech events of the year have been cancelled because of the COVID-19 health crisis. Some of them have even been postponed to next year. But it looks like we won't be getting an in-person show anytime soon.

Earlier today, the Consumer Technology Association announced that its CES 2021 show will be an all-digital event. The event is slated to take place on the first week of January 2021 and will be offering a "new immersive experience."

This new announcement supersedes the previous report that CES 2021 will be an in-person event that will be held in Las Vegas in January. In last month's announcement, the CTA promised that it would be setting extra precautions in place to make sure that attendees will be safe and healthy. Among its safety measures include regular cleaning and sanitization, practicing social distancing with wider aisles, and even encouraging mask wearing and avoiding handshakes.

Given the fact that the pandemic is still ongoing and is a huge problem in the country, it would likely cause some attendees to think twice about attending a major event. Even if CES 2021 won't be taking place for another five months, there will still be some reservations about attending such events; especially since a vaccine hasn't been released yet.

The president and CEO of CTA, Gary Shapiro, says:

"Amid the pandemic and growing global health concerns about the spread of COVID-19, it's just not possible to safely convene tens of thousands of people in Las Vegas in early January 2021 to meet and do business in person."

"Technology helps us all work, learn and connect during the pandemic --- and that innovation will also help us reimagine CES 2021 and bring together the tech community in a meaningful way. By shifting to an all-digital platform for 2021, we can deliver a unique experience that helps our exhibitors connect with existing and new audiences."
