Cricket Wireless Latest Announcements and Plan Changes

Cricket Wireless made a few important announcements today.

The most important one that the AT&T prepaid brand made is that it has revealed a launch date for its 5G wireless network.

They have also unveiled the first 5G smartphone that they will be offering. The prepaid brand also launched a new promotion, some changes to their plans, and a new affordable device in their lineup.

5G Launch + Smartphone

The first announcement that Cricket Wireless made is that they would be launching 5G wireless on August 21st. This means that during this time, Cricket Wireless subscribers with a 5G smartphone will already be able to activate the service. For those who don't have a 5G capable smartphone yet, they can get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G.

Unfortunately, Cricket has not yet revealed the pricing and release date of this smartphone.

End Of Summer Savings

Another announcement that the prepaid brand made is that they have launched a new promotion called the "End Of Summer Savings."

Cricket has updated its phone deals and has even unveiled the Samsung Galaxy A11 as the latest affordable device to be included in their roster of devices. For new customers who port-in, Cricket is offering this phone for $79.99. Meanwhile, current customers or new line activations will have to pay $119.99 for the phone.

As for the updated phone deals, these are the discounted Cricket phones:

  • Alcatel Insight - Free for port-ins, $19.99 for upgrades/new line (was $79.99)
  • Alcatel Onyx - Free for port-ins, $39.99 for upgrades/new line (was $119.99)

  • Apple iPhone 7 32GB - $49.99 for port-ins, $199.99 for upgrades/new line (was $399.99)
  • Apple iPhone 8 Plus 128GB - $199.99 for port-ins, $299.99 for upgrades/new line (was $499.99)
  • Apple iPhone SE - $249.99 for port-ins (was $349.99)
  • Cricket Icon - Free for port-ins, $19.99 for upgrades/new line (was $79.99)
  • LG Escape Plus - Free for port-ins, $59.99 for upgrades/new line (was $119.99)

New Changes to Plans

Lastly, Cricket Wireless has made changes to two of its plans. The new changes are as follows:

  • $40 per month plan - comes with unlimited talk, text, and 10GB of high-speed data (previously included 5GB of high-speed data)
  • $55 per month plan - comes with unlimited talk, text, and high-speed data with 8Mbps max data speed cap (previously included 3Mbps data speed cap)

  1. these minor and useless changes are so insignificant it's embarrassing... 3 mega bite speed cap to 8 mega bite? what does that even mean? so many other choices out there... hard pass
