MWC 2021 Might Go Digital Too

Yesterday, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) announced that it will push through with its Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2021 event in January. The big difference, however, is that the CES 2021 will be turned into an all-digital experience in order to have an event that people can attend without worrying about their health and safety.

With that announcement, many can't help but wonder if the GSMA will be following with this initiative for its Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2021 event. It can be recalled that the MWC 2020 event was cancelled due to the health crisis.

According to TechRadar, the GSMA has confirmed that it will be pushing through with MWC 2021 regardless of the health crisis. But compared to the CTA, the GSMA is working on two versions for the event.

The GSMA is really keen on having the traditional physical event in Barcelona. But the GSMA and its partners are continuously monitoring the global health situation. If the health crisis continues to make it difficult to have a physical event by early 2021, it is possible that MWC 2021 will follow the all-digital format that CES 2021 will have in January.

The GSMA is expected to make a final decision in the coming months so that its participants will still have enough time to prepare and adapt to the format that will be followed during the event.
